Taiwan Cherry (Prunus campanulata)

December 9, 2016 Back to Picks >

taiwancherry

One of the finest flowering cherries for the deep South! A small, very lovely tree with masses of rose-red flowers for an extended time around early February to March. Averages 18′-20′ tall & does best in a moist, well-drained soil. Grows in full sun or light shade, but prefers a little afternoon shade. ‘Okame’ is a beautiful medium pink hybrid of this wonderful cherry & begins to bloom a couple of weeks after ‘Taiwan,’ extending the cherry bloom season. Also available in a double form as Prunus subhirtella ‘Autumnalis Rosae’ x campanulata.
