Herb Picks featured for 2022 are especially associated with Madalene Hill, who either discovered the specific herb and introduced it into the marketplace or because it has been named in her honor.  During every year, these herbs are found scattered throughout Arbor Gate gardens, and especially in The Madalene Hill Herb Garden located at the Herb House entry.

An unusual strain of origanum x majoricum, first given to Madalene by a visitor from California many years ago. Though it closely resembles sweet marjoram, this oregano possesses a flavor more subtle and complex than either ordinary marjoram or any of the more commonly used culinary oreganos. This oregano is not widely produced for the market, so is often passed along from herb fancier to herb fancier. Because of its ease of propagation and wonderful scent and flavor, be sure to avail yourself of any offered cuttings.
