Arbor Gate's Picks

Habak Mint

April 11, 2022 Back to Picks >

Herb Picks featured for 2022 are especially associated with Madalene Hill, who either discovered the specific herb and introduced it into the marketplace or because it has been named in her honor. During every year, these herbs are found scattered throughout Arbor Gate gardens and especially in The Madalene Hill Herb Garden located at the Herb House entry.

A mostly aromatic and ornamental mint whose provenance is Biblical: this is the mint designated in the Bible as the one used for the payment of taxes. Beautiful gray-green color and a fitting addition to the herbal prayer or meditation garden. It has a highly flexible growth pattern in our area, thriving in hot summer temperatures as one would expect of a Middle Eastern native, but able to look quite respectable and productive through our winters as well.
