Time for Something Cool and Refreshing!

The temperature is on the rise, and it’s time to discover a great new summer beverage! This one is super easy to make and adaptable for adults and children. It is a cool, refreshing, blast of summertime flavor – my watermelon agua fresca!

Watermelon Agua Fresca

Serves 6-8

4 Cups       Cubed seedless watermelon

¼ Cup        Sugar, if desired

2 Cups       Sparkling white wine, sparkling water, or Sprite

                   Vodka to taste (optional)

                   Ice

                   Mint to garnish

Purée watermelon with sugar in a blender or food processor. Strain into a pitcher, discarding solids. Stir in sparkling wine and add vodka to taste. Serve over ice and garnish with mint.

Try substituting cantaloupe or honeydew melon for the watermelon. Toss in some ripe strawberries, peaches, or pineapple! Use whatever looks best at the market! Usually I do not add any sugar. If you buy ripe fruits, they have enough sweetness on their own. For a party presentation, moisten the rim of each glass with lime or lemon juice. Dip the rim into a bright colored sanding sugar and allow to dry.  Offer variety ~ fill three glass carafes, each with a different flavor, and chill in a ice-filled beverage tub. You and your guests will love them!
