NACOGDOCHES, Texas – SFA Gardens at Stephen F. Austin State University will host its annual Fabulous Fall Festival Plant Sale from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the SFA Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St. in historic Nacogdoches.
A wide variety of hard-to-find, “Texas tough” plants will be available, including Texas natives, heirlooms, tropicals, perennials, shrubs, trees, and exclusive Greg Grant and SFA introductions. Most of the plants are extensively trialed in the gardens before being offered to the public and most are produced by the SFA Gardens staff and volunteers.
This popular event benefits the SFA Mast Arboretum, Pineywoods Native Plant Center, Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden, Gayla Mize Garden, and educational programs hosted at the gardens.
The education programs at SFA Gardens reach over 15,000 students ages 1 to 100 on a yearly basis.
The public is encouraged to arrive early and bring a wagon. For more information, call (936) 468-4404, or visit www.sfagardens.sfasu.edu two weeks before the sale for a list of available plants.
Hi Greg, so good to “catch up” with you on this blog. I’ve been thinking about you lately as I’m embarking on some much needed horticulture therapy time. You are just the same as always– funny, sweet, and passionate about everything you care about. You gave me my first plant, a Tropical Bromeliad, and I loved that plant for a long time. I have a small townhouse courtyard, no grass, but lots of sunlight and much to make beautiful. I think I need seeds and lots of pretty flowering plants.
There’s nothing at local nurseries to buy at here in BR. So, the next time you come through here, stop by my place and I will cook you the BEST home county Cajun meal you’v ever had. And maybe you could bring me something a little GRAND that will spice up my world of flower gardens. I’m thinking we’d have a stinking good time talking about our crazy, lazy days when we were in our twenties and totally clueless…well at least I was.
Think it over, and see when you’ll be in the Prairieville area.
Mel
Though I’m far from in my twenties now I’m afraid I’m still CLUELESS!!! I’ll keep a cool plant with your name on it. -GG
There are three things I very much remember from my Baton Rouge days. The gardens are beautiful, people are very friendly, and they sure know how to cook! I still use the yummy etouffee recipe from friend and student Brett Poirrier from Prairieville.
Hi, are you planning to have a open house (garden) day too? I would love to go and I am sure many others. I enjoy the article about your place on the Texas magazine, brought just because of the article about you. Thanks, JM
I usually try to swing an “open house/garden” every other year through SFA. Unfortunately it was yesterday. If it doesn’t rain however, there may never be another! -GG
