If you love old garden, antique, and heirloom roses, our October virtual meeting is not one for you to miss! Anita Clevenger is joining us to discuss ramblers and Ann Belovich’s amazing collection of over 350 varieties of rare ramblers that were located in the state of Washington. Anita will be joined by Claude Graves who will share what the American Rose Society and the American Rose Center are doing to replicate and preserve Ann’s collection, as well as, establish a national conservation effort to reintroduce the ramblers into commerce and America’s gardens.
Anita Clevenger volunteered for 17 years in the Sacramento Historic City Cemetery’s Historic Rose Garden, most recently as the curator of this site which received multiple international awards. No longer a volunteer at the cemetery, she continues to work to preserve rare and historic heritage roses by propagating them, passing them along to collectors and commercial vendors, and mentoring gardens where heritage roses are grown. She is the Vice President for Publications of the Heritage Rose Foundation and is the chief editor of its newsletter. She is a Lifetime Sacramento County UC Master Gardener and has written many articles about roses and general gardening for publications around the world.
Claude Graves and his wife Pamela have been growing roses for 54 years in Richardson, Texas. Their rose obsession began in 1969 when Claude’s mother gave them a dozen Jackson Perkins bare-root roses for a new flower bed. They previously grew 250 roses of over 200 different varieties of all classes of roses.
Claude is a Member and former Treasurer of the Heritage Rose Foundation, a Member of the American Rose Society and Chairman of the American Rose Center Committee in Shreveport LA, Four-time President of the Collin County Rose Society, Twice President of the Dallas Rose Society and Twice President of the Dallas Area Historical Rose Society.

He is a co-author of the EarthKind© Rose Manual and has been awarded the American Rose Society Silver Medal and Outstanding Consulting Rosarian Award by the ARS South Central District. He was awarded the Klima Gold Medal for 2021 by the American Rose Society for “excellence in the field of horticultural education concerning The Rose” and the Mary Johnson Award in 2022 for “dedication and service to the American Rose Society”…
