Carefully chosen annuals, perennials or ornamental grasses with similar growing requirements make good companions for roses. They can provide contrast to your rose bushes, hide woody canes and soften an area. In addition, some plants may attract beneficial insects and help control pests naturally.

Angela Chandler is a lifelong gardener with a passion for learning and for teaching. She and her husband, Fred, tend a ½ acre micro-homestead in Highlands, Texas.
Angela is an accomplished speaker and presents gardening programs at The Arbor Gate, Urban Harvest, College of the Mainland, and at various gardening club meetings. She is also a member of The Garden Writer’s Association and her articles have been featured in The Houston Chronicle; Fine Gardening Magazine; Houston House & Home; The Garden Academy’s website blog, The Arbor Gate’s website blog, and in this newsletter! In addition, Angela is a retired Texas Master Gardener and has received certifications as a Certified Propagation Specialist; Greenhouse Management Specialist; Rainwater Harvesting Specialist; and Entomology Specialist. In 2004, she was awarded the Texas State Master Gardener of the Year.
ARS Consulting Rosarians who attend this meeting will receive one hour of continuing education credit. CRs are required to email [email protected] by May 11th with their name, email address, and name of their rose society if a member outside HRS in order to receive credit.
