Tyler, Texas — The Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service in Smith County will continue its 2017 East Texas Garden Lecture Series at 9 a.m. Saturday, September 9 at Pelle Legna Vinyards, 18655 CR 418, Tyler, Texas 75704.

Pelle Legna Vineyards and winery was established in 2007. They grow and nurture vines of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Zinfandel, Cab Franc, Sangiovese, Mourvédre, Malbec, Grenache, Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Petite Sirah and Muscato.

Pelle Legna is one of a handful of Texas wineries that is 100% estate grown and hand crafted. Wine maker, Dawn Leatherwood will host a wine tasting and provide a tour of the vineyard and winery.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with a wine tasting beginning at 9:00 a.m, followed by a tour of the vineyard and winery ending around 11:00 am. Tickets are $15 per person (please RSVP) and may be purchased at the door or in advance at the Smith County AgriLife Extension office (Cotton Belt Building), 1517 W. Front St. Suite 116 in Tyler. Each attendee will receive a complimentary Texas Gardener magazine.

To reach the vineyard, go west on State Hwy 64 and turn right on CR 413. Then turn left on FM 724, left again on CR 416 (Jody Newton Rd.), left again on CR 415, and right on CR 418. When you reach the gate house, turn right until you reach the residence for the wine tasting.

The lecture series is a collaborative effort between the Smith County AgriLife Extension Environmental Horticulture Committee, the Smith County Master Gardeners, and the city of Tyler water department.
