The Arbor Gate,Way More than a Garden Center and Plant Nursery…
We lost a dear friend and talented artist, Lorenzo Padilla, of Lorenzo’s Birdhouses last week. His timeless creations have graced so many of our gardens and homes. Lorenzo’s birdhouses have not only been shared worldwide, but are also featured in Ann Schmauss’ Birdhouses of the World. The Arbor Gate still has a limited selection available now.
The Arbor Gate, way more than a garden center and plant nursery, is quite literally an inspired collection that includes unusual plants, artisan-created decorative pieces, and a constantly changing array of items that bring beauty, comfort, and even flavor to the home and garden.
The Gate (as it’s fondly called) is your entry to our symphony of color, fragrance, form, and function that can infuse your indoor and outdoor living spaces with personal warmth and beauty.
Plants are our passion – regardless of your primary aim when you visit us, you’ll find yourself surrounded by magnificent display gardens that can’t help but inspire your creativity. And because the Arbor Gate family includes so many experienced and dedicated gardeners and plant experts, your questions will be answered with an unusual depth of knowledge and know-how.
We look forward to helping you achieve your own vision, whether you come to The Arbor Gate for information, inspiration, or both.
Join us and our dragonflies — take an ordinary journey to an extraordinary place!

You’ll find the plant selection here at The Arbor Gate to be incredibly diverse!
One of our specialties is roses. The year we offer will over 100 varieties of antique, old and own root roses. The roses have been around for generations, and for good reason! Disease and pest resistant, these varieties require little care and will be highlights in your garden for years to come. In addition, we carry all the Earthkind varieties, which have been extensively tested by Texas A&M University for hardiness, long bloom time, and easy care.
Our display gardens showcase our plants in natural settings. Wondering what herbs grow in Texas? Looking for that cottage garden look? Think you have too much shade to get color?
Our original shop, entered as soon as you pass through our signature arbor, carries anything and everything for the discerning gardener. Here you’ll find fertilizers, soil amendments, lawn products, garden hats, gloves, and gardening books.
A short stroll through our gardens brings you to The Arbor Gate too!, a treasure trove of amenities for enhancing the hospitable home. This delightful 1930’s frame house, discovered in the Houston Heights and moved to The Arbor Gate in the late 1990’s, is surrounded on all sides by stunning display gardens. The house, beautifully renovated, provides a unique environment that’s sure to stimulate your creativity and imagination.
